Toronto Lip Injections (Lip Fillers)
As time passes, the lips may begin losing volume, which causes them to appear thin. However, individuals who desire fuller lips now have an option – lip augmentation with FDA-approved dermal fillers. Dermal fillers that have been approved by the FDA for use as a filler for the lips may also be referred to as ‘lip fillers.’ Besides being ideal for use as lip fillers, at the Skinjectables Cosmetic Clinic in Toronto, Canada, we also use dermal fillers to diminish the signs of aging.
What Can Lip Fillers Accomplish?
Lip fillers can be used to add volume to the lips and results are immediate: Directly following a lip injection procedure with lip fillers, the patient will have plumper, more voluptuous lips.
Lip Injections Before & After Photos
Who Should Consider a Lip Augmentation?
If you have naturally thin lips and would like a fuller, more voluptuous pout, you may want to consider having lip fillers injected. In addition, if you enjoyed fuller lips during your youth and you notice that they are starting to thin, our Anti-Aging Experts can easily restore that lost volume with a lip filler. Another issue that we can address during the same lip injection procedure is the fine lines that surround the mouth.
Who Should Not Consider Having a Lip Augmentation?
Safety is of the utmost importance, for this reason, patients who should not consider a lip augmentation with Juvéderm® products include those who:
- are allergic to the gram-positive bacterial proteins that are used to make the hyaluronic acid.
- have allergies that lead to severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).
- are allergic to the numbing agent lidocaine (aka lignocaine and xylocaine).
- are prone to bleeding.
- have a bleeding disorder.
What Should I ask My Anti-Aging Expert During the Consultation at Skinjectables in Toronto?
Writing down questions to ask during your initial consultation is encouraged.
Some common questions include:
- How many syringes of lip fillers will be necessary to attain the lip enhancement results you desire?
- May I see some before-and-after photos of patients who had lip enhancement procedures with Juvéderm® and RHA?
If you choose to have lip enhancement injections with lip fillers, ask about pre-treatment recommendations.
What Does My Anti-Aging Specialist Need to Know About Me?
During your consultation, you need to be prepared to provide your Anti-Aging Expert with:
- a list of your current medications (prescription and over-the-counter), vitamins and herbal supplements. If you take a multi-vitamin, please write down its name.
- information related to any drug allergies or if you are allergic to latex, please let your Expert know
- your medical history: This information should include surgical procedures, treatments, chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.).
Your Toronto Anti-Aging Expert also needs to know if you:
- are pregnant, breastfeeding or attempting to become pregnant. Prior to your treatment, please inform your Anti-Aging Specialist if any of the aforementioned apply to you: The safety of dermal filler injections during pregnancy or while breast feeding has yet to be determined.
- have an injury near the injection site. Unless the procedure is rescheduled until the injury heals, your chances of experiencing side effects increase.
- are on medications for immunosuppressive therapy or if you take blood thinners (e.g., warfarin, aspirin, etc.). These medications can increase the likelihood of bleeding or bruising at the lip filler injection sites.
- are taking Advil®, Aleve®, Excedrin® and Ibuprofen. These medications must be discontinued for at least a week prior to your lip injection procedure.
- have a history of scarring or pigmentation disorders, please let your Anti-Aging Expert know. In addition, if you are planning to have a chemical peel or laser treatment after receiving your Toronto lip filler injections, you should ask your Expert how long you need to wait. Otherwise, there is an increased risk of inflammation following these kinds of treatments.
- are experiencing any type of skin problem in the area(s) being treated with an RHA or Juvéderm® product. These problems may include cold sores, rashes, cysts or pimples, which can be located in or around the mouth. Lip filler injections should be postponed until the problem dissipates; otherwise, healing may be delayed or the skin problem being experienced might worsen.
- are prone to facial herpes simplex (aka cold sores). Your Anti-Aging Expert can prescribe medication to prevent such an outbreak following treatment with lip fillers. Medications commonly used for this purpose include Valtrex, Acyclovir and Famvir.
How Long Does a Lip Injection Procedure Take?
A lip injection procedure with RHA or Juvéderm® is relatively short, lasting from 30 to 60 minutes.
Do Injections with Lip Fillers Hurt?
Since we use a topical anesthetic and all the dermal fillers we use contain lidocaine, most patients experience very little discomfort during the injection process.
The Lip Injection Procedure
Prior to beginning the lip injection procedure, your Anti-Aging Specialist will use a topical anesthetic to numb your lips. It takes about 20 minutes for this anesthetic to reach its full potential. Once the numbing agent takes effect, the lip enhancement procedure will begin.
Besides the topical anesthetic, all of the fillers we use contain the numbing agent lidocaine. This ensures that patients remain comfortable throughout their lip enhancement procedure.
Your Specialist chooses the injection points.
Antiseptic is applied.
The dermal filler is carefully injected into the lip. The hyaluronic acid in RHA and Juvéderm® adheres to the skin. The water contained in the HA assists in volume retention beneath the skin’s surface. Since water is naturally drawn to HA, this renewed lip volume is preserved.
You will be able to leave directly following your lip enhancement procedure with lip fillers in Toronto, Canada: Most of our patients return to their everyday activities immediately after their lip filler treatments.
When Will the Results be Visible?
While changes are visible directly following treatment, full results will not be evident for about a week.
How Long is the Recovery Period Following Lip Filler Injections?
Directly following lip filler injections, patients should expect to experience swelling. This swelling only lasts for a few days. Typically, lipstick easily covers any bruises that appear on the lips.
Patients should avoid touching their lips for 48 hours. In addition, exercise should be avoided for a few days because it speeds up the blood flow.
If you notice symptoms that seem abnormal, progressive and/or you experience unmanageable pain, contact the office right away at 416.546.5200.
How Long Will My Results Last?
The length of time the results attained from a lip injection procedure lasts varies; however, we can get an estimate by reviewing the results of a Juvéderm® Ultra longevity study.
What Dermal Filler Products Are Available at the Skinjectables Cosmetic Clinic in Toronto, Canada?
We frequently use the Juvéderm® product line when performing lip injection procedures at our clinic in Toronto. All the lip fillers used for lip augmentation from this product line consist of hyaluronic acid (HA).
Resilient Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers by Teosyal®
One of the newest dermal filler products available at the Skinjectables Cosmetic Clinic in Toronto, Canada, is the revolutionary Resilient Hyaluronic Acid (RHA) fillers by Teosyal®.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance within the human body. HA helps the skin retain moisture, which adds to its volume and aids in maintaining softer, more youthful-looking skin, and plumper-looking lips. Hyaluronic acid also promotes the production of collagen. At the Skinjectables Cosmetic Clinic in Toronto, Canada, we offer a variety of lip fillers that consist of HA.
What is Collagen?
Collagen is responsible for giving skin its elasticity. As we age, it is natural for our collagen production to slow down: This decrease in collagen production leads to less-resilient skin. However, as the hyaluronic acid boosts the production of collagen, the skin’s elasticity increases and wrinkles become less apparent. In addition, collagen naturally adds volume to the lips.
What is Juvéderm®?
As previously mentioned, Juvéderm® consists of hyaluronic acid. The results attained with the Juvéderm® line of lip fillers can last up to 18 months.
The Juvéderm® Dermal Fillers Available at the Skinjectables Cosmetic Clinic, in Toronto, Canada
Juvéderm® has a line of fillers that can be used to address a variety of facial characteristics that occur as we age. In addition, Juvéderm® Ultra is approved by the FDA for adding volume to the lips in adults who are at least 22 years old.
– This product is designed to add volume to, and plump-up the lips. Juvéderm® Ultra is ideal for individuals with lips that are thinning due to the natural aging process or for those who would just like more voluptuous lips.
Juvéderm® Ultra Plus
– This dermal filler is very similar to Juvéderm® Ultra, just thicker. For this reason, it is used to correct deep folds, severe wrinkles, lines from the corners of the mouth that extend downward toward the jawline as well as to add volume to the cheeks. Juvéderm® Ultra Plus plumps the skin, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles. All of the dermal filler products that we carry at Skinjectables in Toronto, Canada, contain lidocaine.
This dermal filler is also used for what is referred to as the ‘liquid face lift’ and can be used to rejuvenate the hands.
– This product was created to address fine lines. Our Injection Experts typically use Juvéderm® Refine to address crow’s feet, superficial forehead lines and smile lines.
Resilient Hyaluronic Acid(RHA) Dynamic Fillers by Teosyal® Available in Toronto, Canada
One of the biggest concerns for people who are considering dermal filler injections is a fear of looking unnatural after their procedure: The RHA Dynamic Fillers by Teosyal® are excellent for addressing this concern. In addition, choosing an Anti-Aging Specialist who has experience performing these kinds of injections can make an enormous difference in the final result.
Traditional Fillers vs. Resilient Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
The difference between traditional fillers and RHA fillers is that resilient hyaluronic acid fillers have the ability to recoil and then spring back to their initial form. For example, after being bent, stretched, compressed or altered during facial expressions, they bounce back to their original shape. These resilient HA fillers deliver a very natural-looking result. In addition, resilient hyaluronic acid fillers take longer for the body to metabolize; therefore, the patient enjoys longer lasting results than those that are typically seen with traditional dermal fillers.
While Teosyal® offers four grades of RHA Dynamic Fillers, at the Skinjectables Cosmetic Clinic in Toronto, Canada, we offer three of them. The grade a resilient hyaluronic acid filler receives is based on its concentration of HA and the product’s intensity. These variations determine which areas of the face and wrinkle depth (or hollows) that each product is best suited to address.
Resilient Hyaluronic Acid Dynamic Filler Grades Available at Skinjectables in Toronto, Canada:
RHA 1 – Used to treat fine lines and surface lines. RHA 1 is ideal for wrinkles on the neck, around the eyes, on the forehead and in the perioral zone.
RHA 2 – This filler is frequently used to treat wrinkles and lines of average/medium depth. Our Anti-Aging Specialists typically use RHA 2 between the eyebrows, around the eyes, in the marionette lines and the perioral zone.
RHA 3 – This grade filler is used for deep wrinkles and lines. It is used around the eyes, around the nasolabial area and between the brows.
A Lip Filler Longevity Study for Juvéderm® Ultra:
According to a study, 78 percent of the people who were treated with Juvéderm® Ultra experienced improvement in the look and feel of their lips, results were still evident 12 months after their initial lip injection treatment.
Since hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and lip fillers promote the production of collagen, many patients require less product on follow-up visits.
What Side Effects are Possible Following Injections with Lip Fillers?
Patients typically experience swelling following injection treatments with lip fillers; therefore, patients should schedule their first treatment at least 72 hours before any type of social event (e.g., family reunion, wedding or high-school reunion, etc.).
Following lip injections with lip fillers, some of the most common side effects include tenderness at the site of injection, bleeding from the injection sites, redness, bruising and inflammation. These symptoms usually resolve within a few days.
Recognizing More Serious Side Effects Following Injections with Lip Fillers
As with any procedure, complications are possible. While complications following lip injections are rare, addressing this topic is essential to ensure our patients know what could indicate a serious side effect.
Symptoms to watch for that indicate a more serious complication include:
- irregularities and/or lumps in the lips.
- severe, prolonged bruising or swelling (lasting from a week to 10 days).
- scarring, stiffening or ulceration of the lip.
- lips appear disproportionate.
- an allergic reaction (itching, swelling and/or redness around the lips).
- if the product is injected into a blood vessel, tissue loss is probable.
- if a patient experiences extreme swelling and/or develops a fever, the patient needs to contact the office right away at 416.546.5200.
How do I Maintain My Lips?
As time passes, the results attained with lip fillers diminishes; however, additional injections can be performed intermittently to maintain the results achieved. Results attained from a lip injection procedure can last anywhere from 2 to 9 months: Since the longevity of these dermal fillers varies greatly, each patient may obtain a different result. Therefore, follow-up lip injection procedures are determined based on a patient’s overall lip injection results.
What If I Am Not Happy with the Results?
Although uncommon, in the event that a patient is displeased with the results attained through the injection of lip fillers, options are available.
The approach used depends on a variety of factors, including:
- the results a patient desires.
- the nature and severity of the problem.
- the type of lip filler that was initially injected.
Addressing Problems Following a Lip Augmentation
Massaging the Lips
Slight asymmetry or moderate lumpiness can be addressed by massaging the lips. However, the proper technique must be utilized; therefore, patients should contact the office at 416.546.5200 and make an appointment to learn the proper lip massage technique.
Removal of Hyaluronic Acid Lip Fillers in Toronto
Products that consist of HA can be removed either completely or just partially with hyaluronidase. This enzyme dissolves the hyaluronic acid particles.
Issues that hyaluronidase can address include:
- an irregular or lumpy texture (that neglects to respond to massage).
- prolonged or excessive inflammation.
- infection within the treatment area.
- lips that appear ‘overfilled.’
- vascular compromise caused by the filler being injected extremely close to a blood vessel, causing interference with the natural blood flow. When a qualified, experienced injector performs the lip injection procedure, a vascular compromise is extremely unlikely.
How Much Do Lip Injections with Lip Fillers in Toronto Cost?
Juvéderm® lip fillers are priced by the syringe: At the Skinjectables Cosmetic Clinic in Toronto, each syringe typically costs $700.

Lip injections with dermal fillers are very effective at increasing lip size, structure, and contour. Using dermal fillers to add volume to lips has become increasingly popular, as patients covet the sexy, beautiful lips of actresses such as Angelina Jolie, Kylie Jenner, and Scarlett Johanssen.
In addition to plumping up lips, dermal fillers are also able to smooth out the lips, restoring youthful vitality to a wrinkled or withered mouth area. Since lips are a key facial feature, creating a subtle increase in volume will lead to an improvement in your overall appearance.
Lip injections typically last around 6 months, after which further injections will be required to maintain your fuller and plumper lips.
Why Lip Injections for Lip Augmentation?
Full, luscious lips make a face look more beautiful and are an indicator of youthfulness and good health. If your lips are thinner or smaller than you would like as a result of genetics or aging, and you desire fuller, poutier lips, then lip augmentation via a lip injection procedure might be perfect for you. While “overdrawing” your lip outline with makeup can help make your lips look fuller for a day, lip enhancement with dermal fillers creates a more enduring solution that will feel and look more natural, and won’t wipe off at the end of the day.
The “vermilion border,” the sharp line between the lips and the surrounding skin is the typical site that is enhanced using lip injections with dermal fillers. By injecting a dermal filler into this part of the lips, it is possible for a cosmetic nurse injector to shape, define, and fill out the lips. It is also possible to enhance the “cupid’s bow,” the v-shaped area in the center of the lip, using dermal fillers to make the “v” shape more pronounced.
Information About Lip Injections
The information on this page serves to provide you with a basic, yet detailed overview of lip injections. It is important however, if you are seriously considering a lip enhancement treatment, to consult with a qualified, experienced cosmetic clinician for information tailored to your specific situation and expectations.
Your Lip Injection Consultation
After you arrive at Skinjectables Cosmetic Clinic for your lip injection consultation, you will meet with a Nurse Injector to assess your overall health and suitability for the procedure, and to discuss your goals and expectations for lip enhancement. During this initial consultation, you will have the opportunity to tell us what you are hoping to achieve with lip augmentation and your Nurse Injector will evaluate you for the procedure once they understand your goals and provide you more information to help you make your decision.
It is important to be very open and honest about your expectations and your medical history. Be prepared to answer questions like:
What outcome do you expect from the procedure?
What is your chief motivation for pursuing lip enhancement?
What is your current use of alcohol or tobacco?
What medications, vitamins, or supplements are you currently taking?
Have you had any previous surgeries?
What medical conditions or drug allergies do you have that you know of?
Are you currently undergoing treatment for any medical conditions?
What to Expect During the Procedure
Lip injections with dermal fillers are a very easy and convenient procedure for your Cosmetic Nurse Injector to perform. They can be performed in our clinic in a minimum amount of time, with little to no downtime or recovery period, and minimal preparation beforehand.
Your practitioner will first prep the site of injection by disinfecting it and may apply a topical anesthetic numbing cream. The procedure should typically take less than an hour to complete and you will be given instructions for aftercare and recovery before you leave the office.
Using a syringe, your Nurse Injector will inject the dermal filler into your top and bottom lips, around the edge of the lip. Each time the syringe enters your skin for an injection, you will feel a light prick, which should cause only minor if any pain.
How long is the recovery period from the procedure?
Your lips may appear puffy or slightly swollen for a few days after the injection procedure. The recovery period and downtime however, are minimal. People who undergo lip injections for lip augmentation can go back to their normal daily routine very soon after treatment. Any numbing agents should begin to wear off shortly after the procedure, and after receiving post-operative instructions from your doctor, you can walk right out of their office and go about your daily routine with no downtime and minimal interference in your life. You may want to take it easy and avoid making any big plans (such as a wedding or important event) for right after the procedure in case you experience any swelling or bruising. You should not exercise the day of the procedure, before or after receiving the treatment, and you may want to avoid exercise for a day or two afterward. You should also avoid anything that increases blood flow to your face like getting a massage or facial.
How Long Do Lip Injections Last?
Lip augmentation with dermal fillers has become a very popular procedure lately for enhancing the lips to give them a fuller, more sultry appearance. Lip augmentation can be performed via a number of techniques from lip injections to surgical implants. Most patients prefer injectable treatment because it is less invasive and strikes a happy medium of semi-permanence. The duration of results from a lip injection procedure can vary greatly from person to person, but the majority of treatments last less than a year. The dermal lip fillers injected during the procedure will last around six months for a typical patient before being reabsorbed back into the body.
After your procedure, you can decide if you are happy with your results and would like to schedule a touch-up treatment to retain your lips’ fuller, enhanced shape and appearance. If you decide lip augmentation is right for you, it is important to understand that for a permanent augmentation via lip injections you will need to develop a relationship with your cosmetic care provider and go in regularly for follow up treatments. Some patients who get regular touch-ups over a period of time find they are able to go 12 months or more before requiring a full lip injection to maintain results.
Are There Any Risks or Pain Involved with Lip Injections?
You should experience only minimal, if any pain from the procedure. If necessary, your Nurse Injector may use a topical anesthetic numbing cream to provide relief. Each time the syringe enters your skin you will feel a slight prick, which should cause only minor if any pain. At most, it may feel like a small pinch.
As with any medical procedure, however non-invasive, there are possible risks, but for this treatment they are minimal. Having an allergic reaction to the dermal filler is the biggest risk. For this reason, a skin test is performed to prevent this from occurring in patients who may be allergic. There are additionally some minor, non-allergy associated risks with lip injections. The most common side effects are bruising, swelling, and redness, which if they occur should only be minor and subside after a short period of time.
Who’s An Ideal Candidate for Lip Injections?
These are some of the most popular reasons for undergoing a lip enhancement procedure.
Candidates for lip enhancement usually want to give their lips a fuller, more luscious appearance. If when you smile, your upper lip or both of your lips disappear into a thin line, you may be a good candidate for lip injections.
Some candidates for lip injections want to balance out the appearance of uneven or asymmetrical lips, enhance the shape of their mouth, or decrease how much of their gum line shows when they smile.
If you are in good overall physical health, have a positive attitude, and realistic goals and expectations for lip augmentation, you are most likely a good candidate for lip injections.
Questions to Ask Your Injector About Lip Injections for Lip Augmentation
It is important for you to take an active role in your lip enhancement procedure to make the best, most well-informed, and intelligent decision about your lips. You want to be sure you have a qualified, experienced cosmetic Nurse Injector that you like for your procedure— before, during, and after.

How long will the procedure take?
What will I need to do on my end to get the best results?
What kind of recovery period should I expect?
